It is a light weekend in the Big 12 Conference. There are only 5 games on the schedule with just one being a conference match up. We will take a good look at that one for sure.
TCU(-20.5) at SMU
Tonight the Horned Frogs of TCU are on the road, albeit not very far to take on SMU Mustangs. The Frogs have not gotten off to the start that head coach Gary Patterson had hoped for this season but they have plenty of time to right the ship and make a run at the Big 12 title. Getting the offense on the right track this week against the Mustangs will be a good start.
The passing game is a must for TCU to have the success they expect to have. Transfer QB Kenny Hill needs to play much better for them to beat SMU tonight. If he can get the passing game opened up and running smooth there is no reason TCU should not win this game by at least a touchdown or two. Not that Hicks and the running game isn’t important, but the air attack needs to lead the way.
San Jose State vs Iowa State (-6)
The Cyclones are in need of a win in the worst way. Off to a 0-3 start, the defense needs to get better and gain some confidence. Hosting the Spartans may be just what the doctor ordered. If either Joel Lanning or Jacob Park step up and lay claim to the starting job and leader of the offense this week, ISU will give new head coach, Matt Campbell his first win.
BYU vs West Virginia(-6) at FedEx Field Landover, MD
The Mountaineers are off to a 2-0 start and looking to maintain their momentum in a neutral field game against the BYU Cougars (1-2). We highly doubt the crowd will be neutral as Morgantown is much closer than Provo. It is the first ever meeting between the two schools. Both have powerful offenses and unproven defenses.
Dana Holgorsen’s offense needs to keep the passing game going along as usual. Skyler Howard is off to a good start. The run game could use a little work. It will need to be more effective this week to keep the Cougars ball-hawking secondary honest. They have 6 INTs already in 3 games. WVU wins and stays undefeated.
Missouri State at Kansas State no line
Not much to say here. KState should handle Missouri State with no problem. It will be a good week to get any small adjustments made before taking on conference rival West Virginia next week. Wildcats win easy.
Oklahoma State at Baylor (-8.5)
By far the most important game in the Big 12 this week. OSU is coming off a big win over Pitt and the Bears beat Rice convincingly. Baylor and its high powered offense will be on full display at home against a Cowboys defense that game up 38 points to Pitt. The OSU defense better play better or it will be a long day. The Bears should get a double digit victory this week and a big conference win.
