According to an university official, freshman guard Leondre Washington will be transferring from the Robert Morris men’s basketball team.
The statement said that “He (Washington) quit the team at the end of the year and wanted to come back, but it was decided it was in the best interest of the program for him to transfer.”
Leondre Washington averaged only 8.4 points this year, but there was a stretch in the middle of the conference season in which he consistently scored 10 points. That stretch was capped with a career high 20 point game against Wagner. He also averaged 23.7 minutes per game with 2.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
Washington is the first Colonial to ask for his transfer release. Losing players via transfer has been an issue for Coach Toole, as the team lost six players last year alone. Although this particular one may not start another trend as Washington transferred multiple times in high school and didn’t show up to the last couple of games for Robert Morris.
Washington can now explore a new college to continue his basketball career. He will have to sit out a season before he can play because of NCAA transfer rules.
