Pittsburgh Penguins: Who Is Saying What About The Black And Gold?

The Pittsburgh Penguins face-off this week against the Vegas Golden Knights at PPG Paints Arena Tuesday and hit the road Thursday to battle the Dallas Stars and Sunday against the Saint Louis Blues.

Here is a quick review of what others are saying about Mike Sullivan’s crew.

ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski thinks Phil Kessel and Evgeni Malkin should be in the conversation for the Art Ross Trophy and the Rocket Richard Trophy, respectively, at the end of the season.

Hooks Orpik at Pensburgh, part of SBNation.com, wonders if the Pens are interested in 22-year-old center Max Domi of the Arizona Coyotes. The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba is a restricted free agent next season and is an $863,333 cap hit in 2017-2018 per CapFriendly.com.

Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now asked the question this past Saturday, “Are Penguins and Kings circling towards a deal?” The Black and Gold took a look at the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League and center Brett Sutter along with defensemen Jordan Subban and Oscar Fantenberg could be on general manager Jim Rutherford’s trade radar.

TribLive.com’s Jonathan Bombulie reflects on the versatility of center Riley Sheahan and how it could determine the trade options for the Black and Gold. Maybe Pittsburgh needs a fourth-line center instead?

Over at the Post-Gazette, Jason Mackey looks at what went into the decision by former Penguin, current Golden Knight Ben Lovejoy to be the first active National Hockey League player to donate his brain to CTE research.

Sam McCaig came up with a list of “The Disappointments: 31 NHL Players Who Should Be Better Than This” at the Hockey News, and he puts Carl Hagelin as the Pens worst underachiever. I am not sure I agree. I might want to throw Tom Kuhnhackl or Conor Sheary (before his injury) into the discussion.

Samuel Campbell from Pens labyrinth, a web page at Fansided.com, examines the most popular jersey number in the history of the Pens and the answer is No. 23, worn by 34 different players including Jean-Guy Lagace, Jim Hamilton, Steve McKenna, and Scott Wilson
