Pittsburgh Thunderbirds: 2018 AUDL Regular Season Schedule And New Venue

Pittsburgh Pa. – Coming into the Spring of 2018, the Pittsburgh Thunderbirds embark on their fourth season in the American Ultimate Disc League and accept the challenge of making a fourth consecutive trip to the playoffs. The AUDL provides athletes the opportunity to contend at the highest level of professional competition.

Fans of the T-birds will watch their favorite players on the Bluff this season. The seven home contests of their 14-game schedule are at Arthur J. Rooney Athletic Field, located at Duquesne University. Among the features, this season is a beer garden, concessions, music, in-between quarter games, and lots of prizes. Former player Pat Hammonds became the second head coach in the history of the Black and Gold in November 2017 after the departure of David Hogan, who was at the helm for the first three seasons of the Thunderbirds existence. Since 2015, David Lionetti has been at T-birds practices and home games and has served as the team’s volunteer assistant coach.

The rest of the coaches in the AUDL Midwest Division – Chicago Wildfire: Adrian King, second season; Detroit Mechanix: TBA; Indianapolis AlleyCats: Eric Leonard, second season; Madison Radicals: Tim DeByl, sixth season; and Minnesota: Phil Bowen, second season.

During the 2017 campaign, Pittsburgh ended up in third place with a 9-5 mark in the Midwest. The T-birds owned a +12 point differential over the regular season and were 13th in the league, averaging 23.0 points-per-contest. They defeated the Wind Chill 26-25 in Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs before bowing out to the Radicals in Madison in the division title match-up, 27-22.
