Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris Women’s Basketball streak hit nine consecutive victories in the Northeast Conference with their 66-47 win at home Monday night against the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils (2-18, 2-7 NEC). It is the first time since Feb. 2010 that RMU has gone undefeated over a full month.
Every time CCSU attempted to bring the score close, the Colonials (16-4, 9-0 NEC) hit the accelerator and unleashed runs of 11-0 in the first quarter and 12-2 in the second. After a 21-7 run over the second and third, Robert Morris acquired a double-digit lead and never relinquished control of the scoreboard.
Fans of the Blue, White, and Red saw their squad outrebound Central Connecticut 42-32 while the defense kept the Women of New Britain to a 29.4 percent shooting rate. It was the seventh time over the 2017-2018 campaign that RMU head coach Charlie Buscaglia’s crew held an opponent to below 30 percent shooting.
Leading the surge of offense was Megan Smith, a 6-foot-1 senior forward, with a season-high 22 points. The native of Barrie, Ontario also added nine rebounds. Sophomore center Nneka Ezeigbo, a member of the All-NEC Rookie Team in 2016-2017, provided her seventh double-double this season with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Three freshman guards supplied help in securing the victory, starting with Megan Callahan’s 11 points. It was her fourth straight game in double figures scoring. Honoka Ikematsu chipped in eight points and a career-high eight assists while Nina Augustin tallied three steals.

Morgan Johnson, a graduate student from Knox, PA, hit 3 of 4 three-point field goal attempts for head coach Beryl Piper’s squad. The 5-foot-10 guard rose to the top of the box score with 11 points for the Blue Devils. Junior guard Sydney Hines was one-point behind with 10. Andi Lydon, a junior forward, and freshman center Ashley Berube contributed a total of six rebounds apiece.
CCSU delivered 10 three-pointers to the scoresheet. For the fourth time this season, the Blue and White achieved 10+ triples in a single match-up. The Central Connecticut bench edged out the Robert Morris reserves, 19-16.
Next Up: RMU travels to Loretto, PA, and to DeGol Arena to face the Saint Francis University Red Flash (13-8, 8-1 NEC). This match gets underway at 2:00 p.m. The two combatants met earlier this season on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Moon Township and the Colonials collected a 63-62 triumph.
The Blue Devils conclude their three-game road trip on Saturday, Feb. 3 against the Pioneers (7-13, 3-6 NEC) of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT at 1:00 p.m.
