SCHLAGGER’s Slant Week 4
Every Thursday during the NFL fantasy season, I will give you an in depth look at the week ahead. This article will focus on a few targets and values on both Draftkings (DK) and Fanduel (FD). At the end of the article, I will list players that will be in my cash game lineups on DK. Quick disclaimer: Cash games are 50/50’s where the top half of the entries cash and head to heads against other users. GPP’s are big tournaments where about 20% of the entries cash and have huge payouts for 1st place.
Note: This will be for the Sunday Main Slate. Not including Thursday Night and Monday Night Football.
Cam Newton (7800 on DK): If paying up for a QB in week 4 Cam is your guy. Atlanta is ranked 31st against the quarterback and he’s in a game that has a 50.5 over/under. I believe there is a chance that Cam comes in slightly under owned relative to what he should be coming off a terrible game last week against the Vikings. What players will fail to realize is the Vikings defense is a top 3 defense and most offenses will struggle against them this season.
Kirk Cousins (6500 on DK): When I did my initial research on Tuesday Morning, I had Phillip Rivers in this spot but I dug more into the numbers and eventually went with Cousins. The Browns rank 25th against the pass and Cousins has more receiving targets than Rivers has with Keenan Allen out, along with Gates. I project Cousins to throw for 250 yards and 2 TDs, which would pay off his 6500 price tag.
Melvin Gordon (6300 on DK): This is the easiest play of the week. Melvin Gordon played 51 out of 59 total snaps in week 3. McCluster only played 9 snaps last week so that means Gordon is playing on many of the 3rd down snaps. He is playing arguably the worst defense in the NFL and at 6300 he is my lock for cash games this weekend.
Carlos Hyde (4200 on DK): Carlos Hyde is very interesting this week mainly because of his price on DK. I don’t know right now if I am going to roster him because I’m not sure I need the salary relief but he is intriguing. He is averaging 21.3 touches per game, which is extremely high. Also, he leads the NFL in redzone rushes this season. Like I always say, when you have that much volume for that price tag, it makes him very intriguing. If I need the salary relief on Sunday, Hyde will be the guy I roster.
DeAndre Hopkins (8400 on DK): I love watching Nuk Hopkins play, he is so fun and he just makes it look easy but that is beside the point. Pro Football Focus has Perrish Cox lining up across from Hopkins on Sunday. Their DFS tool ranks the matchup a 99.9 out of a 100. That is absolutely crazy and I rarely ever see that rating. The matchup on paper against the Titans defense doesn’t scream must play but I love the matchup for Hopkins against Cox. His price is well below the top guys like Antonio Brown and Julio Jones. I’ll take the 1k savings and roster Hopkins.
Terrelle Pryor Sr. (4300 on DK): I can hear it now, everyone is going to say that I am chasing points this week with Pryor Sr. This will be the last week where Pryor is the only show in town. Josh Gordon will be back next week and Coleman will be back in a month and a half. The Redskins rank 30th against WR’s and they are almost certain to be losing in the 2nd half. Plus, there is a good chance he plays a couple snaps at QB and runs the ball at least 3 or 4 times. His price tag is only 4300, which is way too low for the volume he will see on Sunday. Pryor Sr. rivals Melvin Gordon for the best play of the weekend.
Jordan Reed (6300 on DK): If you pay up for TE this weekend Jordan Reed is your guy. You get exposure to the Redskins pass game, which is something you want to do on Sunday. My issue is I do not believe you have to spend on TE this weekend. You have a guy who is practically free that I will mention next but if you have the funds you can’t go wrong with Jordan Reed and the Redskins offense.
Hunter Henry (2700 on DK): Similar to Dennis Pitta last week, Hunter Henry is basically what we call in DFS as “free”. Last week, he played every offense snap with Antonio Gates sidelined and it appears that Gates is nowhere close to coming back. He plays the Saints, who we mentioned above as the worst defense in the league. I think Henry is a lock to get 4 catches for 40 yards at a minimum, which is good enough for the $2700 price tag.
Redskins (3500 on DK): We have touched on the Redskins tons in the slant but they are going against the worst team in the NFL so when you play the Browns you immediately become the top defensive option. My issue is they are too expensive. I hoped to get them at less than 3k but at 3500 I am not sure I want to spend that for a defense this week. You can’t go wrong with them this weekend but I believe there are better value options.
Lions (3100 on DK): Rostering the Lions you would only save $400 dollars but that can go a long way on the week. The Lions get Brian Hoyer and a backup rookie RB this weekend. I love the Lions in this spot but my only reserve is they aren’t playing at home although the Lions situation this weekend may be too good to pass up.
Guys I’m most likely to have in Draftkings cash games: (In No Particular Order)
QB: Cam Newton, Kirk Cousins, Phillip Rivers
RB: Melvin Gordon, LeVeon Bell, Charles Sims, Carlos Hyde, Devonta Freeman, Isaiah Crowell, LeGarrette Blount
WR: DeAndre Hopkins, Marvin Jones Jr., Terrelle Pryor Sr., Antonio Brown, Travis Benjamin, Cole Beasley (if no Dez Bryant)
TE: Jordan Reed, Hunter Henry, Eric Ebron, Jason Witten
D: Redskins, Lions, Patriots, Texans
